Yamazato Restaurant* Taste the authentic Japanese cuisine with a Michelin star

Yamazato Restaurant serves the authentic Japanese Kaiseki cuisine. Our menus have been picked by our Executive Chef Masanori Tomikawa, all in favour of the traditional Japanese cuisine. The cuisine differentiates itself by focusing on the purity of traditional Japanese ingredients rather than using stronger flavours. The style is minimalistic and balance is sought after in everything. Not only in taste, but also in texture, appearance and the colours of the products. The restaurant radiates a classical, serene atmosphere, which gives you an instant feeling of being in Japan. The typically Japanese ambiance at Yamazato is further enhanced by the service. The exquisite hospitality provided by Kimono-clad waitresses and the view of the Japanese garden complement the authentic cuisine. The authentic Japanese Yamazato Restaurant is awarded a Michelin star in 2002.

What to expect at Yamazato?

Yamazato Restaurant is the first traditional kaiseki restaurant outside of Japan that is awarded a Michelin star. The standards that apply to the kaiseki cuisine differ greatly from those of modern Japanese cuisine. This means that the menu is composed following the classical kaiseki structure. The dishes, tableware as well as kimonos of the waitresses are all immersed in symbolism according to the changes of the seasons.

Curious how the chefs prepare sushi? At the sushi-counter you can watch the sushi-masters live at work. You will find Yamazato Restaurant on the ground floor of Hotel Okura Amsterdam.

We understand it could be quite difficult to eat with our bamboo-made chopsticks. If you do not feel comfortable with it, you can ask our staff for ‘beginner’ chopsticks or cutlery. Here you can find more information.

Something different?
Looking for a totally different Japanese dinner experience? Then you should really try Teppanyaki Restaurant Sazanka, located next to Yamazato. At this restaurant, under the skilful hands of teppan-chefs, the dishes are being prepared. Both Japanese restaurants are led by Executive Chef and Manager Masanori Tomikawa.
