The culinary workshops are available as of now!
Tjeerd Blom is looking forward to welcoming you at Taste of Okura! Together with the Okura's other chefs he will organize gastronomic workshops for amateur, semi-professional and professional chefs. As a result of the culinary diversity within Hotel Okura Amsterdam, workshops will be held about Japanese (traditional and teppanyaki) and French as well as international cuisine. Furthermore, in the Wine Room our sommeliers will explain to you how to pair wine and sake with food for optimum effect.
Every quarter, various workshops will be organized for which you can sign up via the website (see below). Below you will find the workshops we will be organizing for you during the coming period.
Taste of Ciel Bleu
In the course of this workshop, which was inspired by the 2 Michelin-star restaurant Ciel Bleu, you will prepare an innovative, French three-course menu. After every course you will sit down at a table to enjoy your own creations.
Taste of Sushi
Have you always been curious about the secrets of the Japanese kitchen? This is your chance. In this session you will first be given a brief introduction to Japanese cuisine, after which it is your turn. You will learn how to prepare nigiri sushi and maki sushi. Of course, traditional miso soup will also be part of it.
Taste of Kaiseki
Decades ago the Yamazato Restaurant introduced a cooking style in Europe for which there was little understanding: the very precious haute cuisine of Japan, kaiseki ryōri. Authentic cultural traditions are involved in the culinary poetry. It is now possible to practise this highly refined art yourself with ‘Taste of Kaiseki'.
Taste of Holland
Would you like to learn more about Dutch products? Under the guidance of one of our Chefs you will create an innovative three-course dinner,using Dutch products from the North Sea and the Wadden Sea, for example, as well as regional products, all of which will undergo a transformation during the workshop.
Taste of High Tea
Are you a lover of high tea? In this workshop, you will first prepare the delicious sweets and learn about various traditions, after which you will enjoy your delicacies while our chefs tell you more about the world of tea.
Taste of Sazanka
Learn to prepare teppanyaki dishes under the expert guidance of Restaurant Sazanka's chefs. You will even learn how to prepare these at home, without a teppan grill. Together you will prepare a four-course dinner. After every course you will sit down in our trendy lounge to enjoy your creations.
Taste of Vega
Do you enjoy vegetarian cooking, and are you looking for inspiration? In this workshop you will learn to prepare various small vegetarian snacks that together make a perfect meal.
Below you will find various workshops we can organize exclusively for groups, in addition to the ones above.
Taste of Sake
Sake's star is on the rise. If you would like to find out more about the background and different varieties of sake, you are cordially invited to participate in this sake tasting.
In the course of this workshop you will get acquainted with various sake-producing regions and different qualities of the Japanese rice wine. (from € 45 per person)
Taste of Wine
Together with one of our sommeliers you will taste wines and grapes from various parts of the world of wine. You will learn how to pair wines and food. In addition, the sommelier will learn you how to taste wines. It is the combination of smell and taste that allows you to discern flavour. This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your culinary horizons. (from € 45 per person)
