US chef Philippe Striffeler joins the Serre Restaurant kitchen team

Californian weeks in the Hotel Okura Amsterdam restaurant

Amsterdam, 30 May 2013 — On 20 June, the team at Serre Restaurant will be welcoming renowned chef Philippe Striffeler of Nikko Hotel San Francisco. The chef from Hotel Okura Amsterdam’s sister hotel has composed a menu with Californian flavours for his stay in Amsterdam. Striffeler will be guest chef in the kitchen of Serre Restaurant for a few days and he will be sharing the secrets of Californian cuisine with Chef de Cuisine Marc van der Tang. His arrival will mark the start of the Californian weeks at Serre Restaurant. The special menu will remain available through 7 July 2013.

 

 

Renowned chef Philippe Striffeler

Philippe Striffeler is F&B director at the Okura Group’s Hotel Nikko San Francisco. He is also Executive Chef of the Hotel Nikko’s famous Anzu Restaurant. The restaurant is known for its sustainable, organic, Asian-inspired Californian cuisine. Originally from Switzerland, Striffeler began his career as apprentice to celebrated chefs such as Jean Troisgros (Restaurant Troisgros, France), Roger Vergé (Moulin de Mougins, France) and Norbert Ziojen (Norbert Restaurant, Switzerland). He then added international experience in places such as Asia, Saudi Arabia and Japan. During his long and distinguished career, Striffeler has garnered numerous accolades and awards for his achievements, including the Hotel Hero Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hotel Council of San Francisco.

Californian weeks

This collaboration with our sister hotel Nikko San Francisco marks the launch of the Californian weeks at the Serre Restaurant. Chefs Philippe Striffeler and Marc Van der Tang are preparing a Californian menu, which will include the San Francisco Cioppino, the famous seafood stew, served with sourdough bread and garlic foam. Our guest chef will be joining Van der Tang’s team in the kitchen from 20 through 23 June. The special menu will remain available through 7 July 2013. A three-course menu will cost € 35, and the four-course menu will be € 46.50. We will also have wine arrangement tailored to accompany these menus for € 22.00 and € 29.50 respectively.
