Hotel Okura Amsterdam completed renovation of the entire conference and events floor

Amsterdam, October 6th, 2011 — Hotel Okura Amsterdam has completed renovating its conference facilities. The entire conference floor has given a new and sophisticated look and feel. In order to celebrate these renovations as well as the hotel’s 40th anniversary, during the months of December and January the hotel will be offering complimentary welcome cocktails to groups.*

For the conceptual design, Jan Wilson, owner of RPW Design, has looked at the local surroundings for inspiration. During one of her visits to the hotel she noticed the sunbeams shining through the trees lining the canal and forming a pattern of shadows. The wall of the Grand Ballroom reflected this light. “It reflects the special atmosphere and play of light that are unique to Amsterdam and the Netherlands”, says Wilson. This became the basis of her design, which includes gentle colours, a carpet featuring a design containing fourteen different shades of green and special lighting. The design exudes the sense of peace and quiet that is characteristic of the Okura brand — European, but with a touch of Japanese influence. LED lights were added to the lighting plan of the Grand Ballroom and the Heian room, to be able to switch the lighting colors in 30 different tones to match the right atmosphere for every event. Wilson’s professional relationship with the hotel is a long-standing one. Previously she designed THE SUITE and the Superior rooms, which present the basic room type of the hotel. Serre Restaurant, the lobby and lobby bar were also renovated according to her designs.

Most of the meeting rooms are situated on the first floor, making this first floor the hotel’s conference floor. The rooms feature natural lighting. The smaller rooms are provided with built-in beamers and screens, ideal for video conferencing and meetings as well as receptions and festive get-togethers. The innovative 55-inch iOkura multi touch screen at the centre of the foyer provides information and interaction. By touching the screen, guests can view various parts of the hotel, including floor plans and pictures. It is also possible to customize this screen with logos and images.

With its view over the Amstel Canal, the 900 m2 Grand Ballroom offers space for large conferences as well as culinary dinners, cocktail receptions and weddings. As Hotel Okura Amsterdam is an official wedding location, weddings can be held entirely in the hotel.

About the meeting-room facilities of Hotel Okura Amsterdam

The entire first floor, consisting of 19 rooms and 2 foyers (2,800 m2) is suitable for conferences, product presentations, dinners and parties for up to 1,500 persons. Thanks to the presence of an own entrance, a freight elevator and two kitchens, spectacular events can be organised in the Grand Ballroom. The hotel houses a Business Centre and an audio-visual department. Hotel Okura Amsterdam has its own spacious parking facilities and is easy accessible.
