Amsterdam, February 2006
November 2004 Hotel Okura Amsterdam started an extensive alteration of its hotel rooms. The standard hotel rooms have been substantially enlarged, making them the largest standard hotel and bathrooms of all five-star hotels in Amsterdam. Developments continued in late 2005, when construction was started on a new suite on the 17th and 18th floors. With its 485 m2 / 5390 ft2 area, ‘The Suite’ will be the largest and most spectacular suite in the Benelux area. Eight million euros were invested during the first stage of the project; for the present stage – which includes The Suite – some 6 million euros have been earmarked. The Suite will be opened in June 2006.
Designing the most magnificent suite in Europe was the main challenge put to the famous London architectural firm of RPW, who were entrusted with the design and execution of The Suite. The Suite occupies two floors (the 17th and the 18th), which have been transformed, into an oasis of space, warmth and luxury – an environment delightful to all the senses. The almost 360-degree view of Amsterdam, the picture windows and the natural daylight form a beautiful backdrop to the architects’ creativity.
Marble floors, silk wallpaper, rich fabrics and warm colours are just a few characteristics of The Suite. The Suite’s central reception area features a dramatic fibre optic chandelier, which cascades through the void over the dining area below. Next to the dining area is a richly decorated sitting room, which also has a view of the city. A glass stairway with LED lighting leads up to the two richly decorated bedrooms on the 18th floor. The bathrooms are unique: one features a shell-shaped shower cabinet with an illuminated rain dance showerhead and with a chromatherapy ever overflowing bath system; the other features an oval-shaped full-length bath with a view of Amsterdam. Both bedrooms and bathrooms are provided with flat-screen TVs. In addition, the rooms have spacious walk-in closets. There is also a room of fitness equipment. Furthermore, The Suite boots a private cinema seating up to 14 people. This extremely luxurious room is also perfect for exclusive presentations.
In addition to its exclusive furnishings, The Suite also offers very advanced equipment, including a surround-sound system, Wi-Fi and ADSL. Guests are provided with a central control system for adjusting lighting, security options and room temperature in The Suite.
The Suite’s luxurious facilities are complemented with a number of services, such as a personal butler, a dinner in The Suite prepared by two of the hotel’s Michelin-star-awarded Chefs and limousine service.
